The Ezinano Community in Awka, the Anambra State capital, has condemned the recent gruesome massacre in Nibo community in Awka South local government area which claimed 16 lives during a traditional festival, placing N10 million reward to anyone who can provide information on the perpetrators.
Ezinano, which shares affinity with Nibo, was particularly affected as it lost some of its residents in the massacre.
The leader of Ezinano Community, Chief Jeff Nweke announced the N 10 million bounty during the second edition of Ezinano Day, which is a celebration of the community's culture and heritage.
Chief Nweke Declaring war on cultism in Ezinano and surrounding communio, Nweke vowed to avenge future deaths connected with cult activities.
He said: "We will not rest until justice is served. The Ezinano Community will not tolerate violence or cultism. We urge anyone with information to come forward and help bring the perpetrators to justice."
At the ceremony, Nweke announced a ₦100m empowerment fund for the women of the area.
According to him,the fund aims to support women-led initiatives and promote economic development in the area.
"The empowerment programme is part of our commitment to building a prosperous and peaceful community. We believe that empowering women is key to unlocking our community's potential," he added.
Nweke said that he will hand over the mantle of leadership of the community to another person before the end of December, 2024, having stabilized the area.
