Stakeholders in Nnewi South local government area have demanded fair representation in the political positions in Anambra South Senatorial District, expressing their desire to replace Late Ifeanyi Ubah In the Senate.
Nnewi South is one of the seven local government areas in Anambra South Senatorial District, with a population of approximately about one million people
Their concern follows the death of Senator Ubah, from Nnewi North local government area, who died on July 27, 2024 in the United Kingdom.
Some of the stakeholders, including Chief Chidi Anyaegbu of Chisco Motors, Chief Maja Umeh, a former Commissioner and chieftain of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, and Hon. Johnbosco Akaegbobi, in a statement, emphasized that every local government area in the Senatorial District deserves representation at the national level.
According to them, there is the imbalance in Anambra South's political landscape, where six other local government areas in the zone have federal representation, except Nnewi South.
"For instance, Ekwusigo LGA has a sitting Federal House Member, Ihiala has a Federal House of Reps Constituency and produced a Governor, while Aguata holds a House of Reps Constituency and the Governorship position.
By allowing Nnewi South to produce the next Senator, the zone can address the long-standing inequity and ensure fair representation," they observed.
The stakeholders also pointed out that while Ihiala LGA, Aguata LGA, and Nnewi South LGA have 20 wards, Nnewi South is not a federal constituency, putting it at a strategic disadvantage.
They urged the people of the zone to embrace the values of equity, fairness, and justice as the bye-election approaches, calling on all political parties, leaders, and the wider community to support their demand.
