The Association of Non-Indigenes in Anambra State (ANIAS) has mobilized its members for active participation in the scheduled September 28 local government election in the state.
As part of the preparation, the association has begun a two-week sensitization programme on voter education in which no fewer than 7,000 of its members from the 35 states residing in Anambra State are taking part.
President General of the association, Prince Chigozie Nweke urged the nine political parties presenting candidates in the election to demonstrate sportsmanship and abide by the law during the exercise.
It also called on the Anambra State Independent Electoral Commission (ANSIEC) to ensure that both sensitive and non-sensitive materials for the election reach the respective wards and polling units on time to avoid disenfranchising voters.
Nweke said: ”We understand how important local government elections are for grassroots governance, which is why we have taken the initiative to educate, mobilize, and sensitize our members on their civic responsibilities.
As non-indigenes in Anambra State, we are partners in this enterprise, and any leadership established in Anambra local government system will affect us either negatively or positively.”
Nweke also urged the Anambra State Police Command and other security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and credible election process on September 28th.
