The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has arrested a 39-year-old man, Chukwugozirim Christian, for allegedly impersonating a Nigerian Navy personnel and engaging in fraudulent activities in Anambra State.
NSCDC said in a statement that Christian was apprehended at Kwata Junction in Awka during a routine visibility patrol.
According to NSCDC, preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been masquerading as a naval officer, duping innocent civilians and engaging in criminal activities.
The Anambra State commandant of NSCDC, Maku Olatunde, while parading the suspect at the state headquarters of NSCDC, commended his operatives for their vigilance and professionalism.
Olatunde said that a search in she suspect's residence yielded incriminating evidence, including military gear and uniforms.
Naval authorities have also confirmed that Christian was an impersonator with no affiliation to the Nigerian Navy.
Meanwhile, the NSCDC has launched a comprehensive investigation to identify and apprehend the suspect's accomplices.
According to the organization, the suspect will be charged in court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
The State Commandant assured the public that the command remains committed to safeguarding citizens from impostors and criminals, urging them to remain vigilant and provide timely information to aid in the fight against crimes and criminality.
