One passenger lost his life while seven others sustained various degrees of injuries in a fatal auto crash at the timber market, Umuokpu, along the Awka-Onitsha expressway in Anambra State.
Two vehicles, a Mack truck with registration number NSK399ZY and a Toyota Sienna bus with registration Number ABJ288DU carrying eight passengers were involved in the accident.
The Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Adeoye Irelewuyi, who confirmed the incident, attributed the crash to overloading and excessive speed, leading to loss of control of the vehicles.
He said that eight male adults and six female adults were on board the vehicles , with three male adults and four female adults being injured, while one adult was killed.
He said that the injured persons were taken to the Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University Teaching hospital, Awka, while the deceased body was deposited in the mortuary.
He sympathized with the victims and deceased family, warning drivers who indulge in overloading and excessive speeding to have a change of attitude
