By Madu Obi

Concerned and aggrieved youths of Nnobi in Idemili South local government area of Anambra State have accused the President -General of the town, Mr Dom Okpala, and some people in the community of plotting to dethrone their traditional ruler, Igwe Nick Obi.

Waving placards with various inscriptions, the youths marched through some streets in Awka and later converged at the Government House where they called for the removal of the PG for allegedly taking sides on some issues in the community.

Their spokesman. Christian Uzuegbunam, accused some people in the community of doctoring committee's report on the crisis in the area.

According to him, instead of the PG to be neutral, he sided with the group that wants to sack the Igwe, by refusing to present the report to Nnobi people and the Igwe -in-Council.

"What he did was to send the report directly to the Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy Matters and Community Affairs", he stated

The youth leader also called for the removal of the chairmen of two villages because, according to him, their tenure had since expired.

“What are they contesting with an 87 year -old man?", he asked.

Addressing the protesters, the Commissioner for Local Government, Hon Collins Nwabunwanne, who spoke through Henry Nwasike said they were already holding a meeting with the stakeholders of Nnobi community to resolve the crisis.

He said the preoccupation of government was to ensure that peace and tranquility were maintained in Nnobi in line with Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s vision of ensuring peace in every community in the state.

Nwasike asked the protesters to articulate their views on the Nnobi crisis in writing and submit it to the Ministry so that they can have their own input which would help them arrive at fair judgment.

“This government will listen to you. It does not side anybody. Soludo’s government is for peace in the communities”, he said.

He commiserated with them over their market, Afor Nnobi which got burnt on Thursday.
