A chieftain of the Labour Party, LP, in Anambra State, Mr. Valentine Ozigbo, has visited the camp of the Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Umueze-Anam, Anambra West local government area, during which he supported the flood victims with various items.
Addressing them at Nkwo Umueze-Anam, Ozigbo expressed deep concern over the devastating impact of the natural disaster on the community and acknowledged that the relief materials provided by his foundation and other donors might not be enough to fully address the community's needs.
Items distributed by the foundation during the visit include cartons of noodles, bathing and washing soap, as well as cash support.
He also pledged to amplify awareness about the community's plight, particularly among the Anambra diaspora community, to generate additional support for the affected residents.
According to him, the gesture symbolized solidarity with the affected residents.
Noting that floods have become an annual challenge that requires more proactive government intervention, Ozigbo called on authorities to enhance their disaster preparedness and response mechanisms.
He specifically emphasized the need for early warning systems and protective measures for vulnerable communities.
Chief Sylvester Nnalue, the Labour Party chieftain in Anambra West, highlighted the recurring nature of the flooding and its severe impact on the community, adding that the people suffered significant personal and economic losses, leading to various social challenges, including youth unemployment and property destruction.
