The Vatican Ambassador to Czech Republic, Nigeria's Most Reverend Jude Thaddeus Okolo, has advocated for interfaith dialogue among Christians as a way of promoting peace and harmony in the country.
Most Rev. Okolo, who spoke during a visit to Governor Chukwuma Soludo at the Government House, Amawbia, said there are various ways to promote ecumenism, including engaging in such dialogue and collaborating with one another, where different religious traditions come together to share their experiences, beliefs, and values.
By so doing, he observed, Christians would build bridges of understanding and promote mutual respect and tolerance.
He pointed out that supporting initiatives that bring together Christian denominations in worship, study and service is another way of bringing an enduring peace in the country.
"In promoting ecumenism, everyone is called upon to embody the values of love, compassion, and service that are central to the Christian faith."
"People should take up the call for unity and understanding, and work together towards a shared vision of a better world for all," the Papal nuncio said.
Most Rev. Okolo also commended Governor Soludo's reforms in education and other people-oriented programmes his administration is executing across the state and urged the people to support him.
In his speech, Governor Soludo advocated for unity and understanding among Christians of different denominations, with the aim of achieving a shared vision and mission.
According to the governor, as the world faces various challenges today, promoting ecumenism becomes more important than ever.
He highlighted the role of Christians in promoting peace and justice in the world, particularly amidst the growing political and social tension, stressing on the need to work together in solidarity, compassion, and respect, to promote reconciliation and healing in communities and in the world.
Soludo added that promoting ecumenism requires a commitment to learning about and respecting the various denominations in the Christendom, noting that each denomination has its own unique history, theology, and practices, which can enrich and broaden understanding of the christian faith.
