The National Vice Chairman, South East of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Ali Odefa, has been suspended by his
Oguduokwor Ward, Onicha Local Government, Ebonyi State of the party.
The suspension, which followed a meeting of the Ward Executive Committee was announced on Friday in Abuja and takes immediate effect.
But in a swift reaction, Odefa, dismissed claims of his suspension by the Ward Executive, describing it as a cowardly act by unknown persons.
Announcing the suspension of the party chief at a press briefing in Abuja, the Acting Chairman, Oguduokwor Ward, Herbert Onyedikachi, along with other executives, said that Odefa’s suspension was due to his alleged anti-party activities and other offences considered detrimental to the party’s image and interests.
Noting that the Ward Executive Committee exercised its authority as enshrined in Section 57(3) of the PDP Constitution, to suspend Odefa, Onyedikachi disclosed that the Committee has referred Odefa to the Ward Disciplinary Committee for further action.
Continuing he said, “The suspension and disciplinary referral are intended to maintain party discipline and uphold the values and principles of the PDP.
The Ward Executive Committee urged party members to remain committed to the PDP’s objectives and goals.”
However, dismissing the suspension, the National Vice Chairman described it as a “cowardly act” carried out by unknown persons, stressing that the perpetrators have no legitimate ties to the party.
Questioning the legitimacy of the announcement, he said, “I’m in Abakaliki as we speak. Don’t you wonder why they left the whole of Ebonyi State to go to Abuja to make such an announcement? These are simply individuals seeking attention.”
