PDP’s Diri re-elected Bayelsa Governor

Incumbent Governor of Bayelsa State and governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Douye Diri, has won the governorship election held in the state on Saturday, November 18, 2023.


Dịrị was declared the winner of the election at the conclusion of the collation of results on Monday afternoon.


The Returning Officer for the election and Vice Chancellor of Federal University Of Technology, Minna, Prof Faruq Kuta, declared and returned Diri winner of the poll said he (Diri) polled a total of 175,196 votes to be reelected.


His closest rival and candidate ofthe All Progressives Congress (APC), Timipre Sylva, came second with 110,108 votes while the Labour Party (LP) candidate polled 905 votes.


Dịrị was leading the poll with over 60,000 as of the time collation was adjourned on Sunday night, but the margin dropped to 58,577, when the result of Sylva's Brass Local Government came Monday afternoon.


According to the Brass result announced at the collation centre, Sylva polled 18,431, while Diri had 12,602.


This brought the total votes of Diri to 150,511, while that of Sylva stood at 91,934, leaving a margin of 58, 577 votes, with Diri winning in five local governments, and Sylva in two.


However, the result of Southern Ijaw LGA where Sylva running mate, Maciver Joshua, hails from which was the last come concluded Diri's victory, as he also won there making bringing his to six local governments and Sylva two.
