Former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi has paid a visit to the world class Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital in Oraifite, which has state-of-the-art medical facility for the treatment of cardiovascular diseases.

The hospital, built by Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation in collaboration with the VOOM Foundation, has been making significant strides in saving lives.

During the visit, Obi expressed his admiration upon learning that the hospital had successfully completed 117 open-heart surgeries, two vascular surgeries, and 10 interventional cardiology procedures.

“These milestones represent a significant contribution to healthcare, directly improving lives and fostering a healthier, more prosperous society,” Obi remarked.

He extended his gratitude to Sir Emeka Okwuosa and the VOOM Foundation for their dedication and noted that the collective efforts of such institutions could help build a society that meets the needs of children, the vulnerable, and the underprivileged.

The Executive Director of Sir Emeka Okwuosa Foundation, Mrs Chidinma Okoye, who spoke during Obi’s visit, recounted the facility’s origin as a small health centre, which Sir Okwuosa later remodelled into the world-class Dame Irene Okwuosa Memorial Hospital.

She explained that the hospital was established to provide quality healthcare, offering free services for children and subsidized care for adults. However, given the economic challenges, most adults also receive treatment without paying.

Obi toured the hospital’s facilities, praising their world-class standards. After engaging with the hospital staff, he encouraged them to remain dedicated to the hospital’s mission, ensuring it achieves the noble goals for which it was established.
