Police burst kidnappers den, arrest 3, in Enugu

Three male suspects have been arrested by operatives of Enugu State Police Command, following the bursting of their hideout at the weekend.


The operatives recovered eight pump action guns among other exhibits.


The raiding of the kidnappers den located in the Centenary City area of Obeagu-Awkunanaw community in Enugu South Local Government of the state, followed credible information made available by the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA).


The arrested suspects according to the State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe (DSP) are; Emmanuel Nwabundo aged 39, from Abia State, Emmanuel Eze aged 35, and Anthony Onoche George aged 30, both from Anambra State, while others escaped.


Detail of recovery from the hideout he said are, eight pump action guns with four live and 26 expended cartridges, one machete, four units of solar-powered CCTV cameras, 13 assorted phones, one DVD player, and four bags and clothes, all suspected to be stolen and objects suspected to be charms.


Ndukwe said in a statement yesterday that "Acting on credible information made available by the Enugu State Capital Territory Development Authority (ECTDA), Enugu State Police Command's Operatives serving in Enugu Area Command raided a criminal hideout in the Centenary City area of Obeagu-Awkunanaw community in Enugu South Local Government Area on Friday, January 19, 2024. The operational exercise led to the arrest of three male suspects.


"...A preliminary investigation conducted reveals that the criminal elements and cohorts at large have been using the location as a hideout for the design and consequent perfection of their criminal activities, including armed robbery, kidnapping, among other crimes, within Enugu metropolis and environs."


Explaining that the suspects would be arraigned in court once investigations wwre concluded, the Command's spokesman said

the Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, had hailed the Operatives for the operational success, and reaffirmed the avowed commitment of the Command to be more proactive and forward-looking in its quest to rid Enugu State of unrepentant criminals and their unwholesome activities.


He added that "CP Kanayo, therefore, calls on the citizenry to remain law-abiding, vigilant, and continue to avail the Police of credible and actionable security information while also reporting criminals and their activities to the nearest Police Station."
