Police Inspector kidnapped in Anambra

The Police Inspector handling the case of the owner of Blue Shield, a security outfit in Awka, Inspector Monday Umana, has been kidnapped.


Inspector Umana, who is attached to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Amawbia. was kidnapped as he arrived home from work on Monday night.


The owner of the security outfit, Ozo Jeff Nweke, was recently arrested by the police for allegedly instigating some nude women and others, to protest against the police over the killing of suspected cultists in the Anambra State capital.


Nweke, who is currently being detained at the Correctional Center, has already been charged to court over the incident and Inspector Umana is the Investigating Police Officer (IPO) handling the case.


Among allegations against Nweke include conspiracy to commit felony, illegal possession of firearms and unlawful possession of firearm based ammunition.


Anambra State Commissioner of Police, Aderemi Adeoye who confirmed Umana’s abduction, however, added that Umana has been rescued.


Adeoye said: “We got information that Inspector Monday Umana of the State CID was abducted as he arrived home from work at about 8p.m. on Monday.


“We locked down the capital immediately and began an intensive search for him. He was rescued at about an hour later in Amawbia. Search for the gunmen is still on."
