The winner of the rerun House of Representatives election for Nnewi North/ Nnewi South/ Ekwusigo federal constituency of Anambra State, Hon Peter Uzokwe has received his certificate of return from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Uzokwe defeated the candidate of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Hon Uche Elodinmuo who was declared winner in the February 25, 2023 national assembly elections.
Uzokwe, however, challenged the declaration at the Court, which ordered for rerun in some polling units in Nnewi North.
Speaking after receiving the certificate, Uzokwe thanked his constituents for believing in him, He particularly commended the senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah his enormous support which ensured his victory.
"Senator Ifeanyi Ubah was the pillar that stood beside me all through the election and resisted attempts by other interested parties to steal my victory."
"I am very happy today, and I want to thank my leader, Senator Ifeanyi Ubah, the lion himself.
"He stood by me all through the election, until I was declared winner. This was despite efforts by the ruling party in Anambra, APGA, to thwart my victory", he said.
Senator Ubah had while briefing journalists after the election, alleged that some top government officials were mobilized to Nnewi to deliver the election to the APGA candidate, but the people resisted them and voted for YPP.
Until recently, Ubah was the national leader of YPP, before he decamped to All Progressives Congress (APC). He, however, still maintains his hold on YPP members who believe so much in him.
