The Senator representing Anambra South senatorial zone, Ifeanyi Ubah has been appointed chairman of the Senate adhoc committee to investigate the turnaround maintenance of the country's refineries.
The senate had on October 24th last year set up the ad-hoc committee following concerns that despite the humongous amounts of money spent on the maintenance of the nation's refineries, they had remained moribund over the years.
According to Senator Ubah, the committee is also meant to investigate all contracts awarded for the rehabilitation of the four refineries in the country
In a statement on Friday, Ubah said: "As the chairman, Senate committee on Petroleum (Downstream), I would always ensure transparency, accountability, and thoroughness in our investigation.
"Our goal is to uncover any mismanagement, corruption, or inefficiencies in the turnaround maintenance of the refineries and contracts award."
"I will also work closely with my committee members to gather all necessary information, interview key stakeholders, and conduct site visits to the refineries."
"We will leave no stone unturned in our quest for the truth and will make recommendations to the Senate based on our findings."
"I am honoured to have been appointed as chairman of this important ad-hoc committee and will do everything in my power to fulfil my duties with integrity and diligence."
"It is crucial that the Nigerian people have confidence in the operations of their refineries and the use of public funds, and I am committed to ensuring that our investigation is thorough, fair, and ultimately leads to positive changes in the management of the nation's refineries".
