The special adviser to the governor of Anambra State on Youth Empowerment, Dr Nelson Omenugha has said that Governor Chukwuma Soludo averted the ongoing protest because he has been empowering the state's youths, at a time the #EndBadGovernance protesters were destroying several government facilities across the country.
Omenugha, who spoke during an empowerment workshop organized in Awka, urged the youths to always remain focused.
Omenugha said: "We are doing empowerment programmes for our members. In the workshop we organized for them, we lined up several forms of empowerment as a means of taking them off the streets and keeping them busy.
We also have two members who just came back from a sponsored trip to China, who will be speaking to us about mushroom farming.
Our hope is to get members from here who will form a cooperative and farm mushroom. We will sponsor them as a means of keeping our youths busy.
That is the reason there is no protest in Anambra. There is no protest in Anambra because we met the various youth groups and told them, if you protest and nothing happens, what have you achieved?
When I was SUG president of Unizik, I dissuaded protests because if you protest and other nefarious elements take advantage and destroy things, you will still be the one to pay and at the same time you will be worse than you were before the protest.
That was why we intentionally met with youths before the commencement of the protest to tell them all these. And the governor in his wisdom has done well to empower youths in various ways, and today, our youths are useful and do not have time for any protest.
There are many programmes which the governor has used to empower youths. The one youth two skills programme has given youths the opportunity to be useful.
The farm to feed programme will further keep more youths busy. So we are not expecting any protest here because our youths are busy and Soludo has empowered them."
