Soludo gifts Anambra farmer N1m for producing biggest yam

Anambra State governor, Professor Chukwuma Soludo has rewarded a farmer, Mr Chigozie Anene from Akwaeze in Anaocha 'local government area of the state,who produced the biggest yam this farming season with N1 million.


Anene was also crowned Anambra State ‘king of yam’ (Eze Ji) 2023 and was gifted with farming tools during this year's Anambra State New Yam festival held at the Alex Ekwueme Square, Awka.


The governor said organizing the festival at the state level was part of his agenda for reviving and promoting the Igbo cultural heritage.


Speaking on the occasion, Governor Soludo advocated for a joint celebration of new yam festival among the Igbo of Eastern region extraction.


According to him, celebrating the festival collectively would show the world that the Igbo has a wonderful culture.


He said: "Our culture is not just dance display, but a totality of who we are, how we dress, how we talk, in terms of our core values. Our culture is an embodiment of who we are. It is a celebration of our hard work".


Soludo used the occasion to highlight his administration's commitment to promoting Igbo culture and values, pointing out that his administration will also continue to mainstream compassion and carrying each other along.


While thanking all the state and local government cultural troupes for their colorful display of cultural procession, he assured that next year there would be prizes for the best local government with the best cultural procession performance.


The Obi of Onitsha and Chairman of Anambra State Traditional Rulers' Council, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Achebe, while applauding Governor Soludo for the event, explained that Anambra Traditional Rulers Council is in partnership with the South East Traditional Rulers Council and some groups of Archbishops to continue to promote the core principles and values of Igbo culture and tradition.


The event featured display of cultural procession from representatives of the 21 local government areas in Anambra State.
