Anambra State Governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo, has unveiled ambitious plans to transform Agulu, the home town of the former governor of the state and presidential candidate of the Labour Party in the 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi into thriving tourist destination.
Speaking during the commissioning of the Agulu Solution Arena Fruit and Vegetables market, Soludo said his administration has a big agenda for Agulu and Anaocha local government area in general, with the aim to harness its natural endowments to drive economic growth and development .
The new market(Oye Toro) located on the Agulu Lakeside road in Umuowelle, Agulu, will serve as a permanent site for the relocated Nwagu Agulu fruit market, which was displaced due to ongoing road dualization in the area
The market relocation is expected to enhance economic activities in the area, and provide opportunities for traders and farmers to
showcase their produce.
Describing Agulu as a tourism hub, with its breathtaking lake and rich cultural heritage, the governor envisioned the town becoming a magnet for tourists, with visitors flocking to experience its natural beauty and unique attractions.
He announced plans to develop a master plan for Agulu, which would include measures to eliminate reckless street markets and promote organized trading.
"No developed country can have reckless markets and this administration is poised to provide alternative spaces for traders in Awka," he said.
Soludo's administration has also prioritized patronizing locally manufactured products, facilitating business, and mobilizing private capital.
Elated by the governor's plan for the area, a human rights activist, Mr. Osita Obi, commended the Anambra State Capital Territory Authority (ACTA) Chairman, Stanley Onunkwo, for his ideas that have transformed the capital territory.
"I'm now seeing a different side of Soludo. Before, I thought he was a rigid person, but with this development, I have seen the human face and compassion in him and his government", Odita Obi said.
