The wife of the governor of Anambra State, Mrs Nonye Soludo, has sponsored the enrollment of 1,000 persons with special needs into the Anambra State Health Insurance Scheme.

It was the largest ever convergence of such beneficiaries receiving the sponsorship from a single individual since the scheme began in 2018.

Mrs Soludo, who is the founder of a non-governmental organization, Healthy Living with Nonye Soludo Initiative, said that she was proud to support the beneficiaries who are from the 179 communities in the state.

With the enrollment, the beneficiaries would be receiving healthcare free of charge in all the registered and approved hospitals for the scheme.

Addressing the beneficiaries at the Governor's Lodge, Mrs Soludo said the intervention was a testament to her husband's administration's shared commitment to the well-being of people with special needs, particularly those living at the grassroots.

She explained that her husband's administration is working round the clock to ensure that everyone living in Anambra State gets a feel of good governance, adding that Anambra's human capital policies are well-designed to explore potentials and give every resident a veritable platform to be on board.

According to her, the state government takes notice of the existence of people with special needs and is therefore working on something for them.

The Anambra Commissioner for Women Affairs and and Social Welfare, Mrs Ify Obinabo also commended the governor's wife for always thinking of how to improve humanity.

She pointed out that the state government was ready for partnerships to expand access to affordable healthcare delivery and improved family welfare packages for all.

In his speech, the Anambra State chairman of Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities, Comrade Ugochukwu Okeke commended Mrs Soludo for the kind gesture.

She, however, appealed to her to include members of the association into her Healthy Living campaign.

She observed that persons with disabilities are more affected when it comes to the issue of healthy living as a result of different challenges hinging on the various nature of disabilities, like access to health care, social stigma and discrimination and therefore need special attention.
