A group, Nimo Citizens for Good Governance, a sociocultural organization, has called on the Anambra State Commissioner for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Town Union Matters, Mr. Tony Nwabunwanne to stop causing disharmony in the community, alleging that the Commissioner's actions had led to unnecessary tension in the once peaceful town.

However, the Commissioner, in an interview said he has no personal interest in any community, insisting that he is only interested in ensuring that he does not run foul of the law by taking precipitate action when an appeal had been lodged by the defeated party in court.

But, according to Nimo Citizens for Good Governance, the Commissioner has been creating problems in Nimo by taking sides in a dispute in the area by supporting a group that is disobeying the orders of a court.

It recalled that in December 2023, Nwabunwanne's Ministry set aside the Constitution of Nimo Town and the constitutionally appointed electoral body and went ahead to conduct what it called a kangaroo election for Nimo, despite warnings that he did not have the powers to overrule the Constitution.

The group's spokesperson, Mr Eziafa Ajagu said: "Despite a court judgement sacking the Town Union Government installed by Nwabunwanne, he has continued to use his office to support the illegal administration.

"He was recently reported to have told members of the constitutionally set up Caretaker Committee to share administrative powers with the defunct Nimo Town Union officers.

All we are saying is that the Commissioner should stay away from meddling with the Constitution of Nimo for personal and political benefits. He should also withdraw the certificate of the sacked officers and instruct them to obey the court judgement.

Nimo people are also asking Governor Chukwuma Soludo to warn his Commissioner to desist from the acts that are responsible for the ongoing crises Nimo has been plunged into."

However, the Commissioner insists that it is only after the last judgement that he would be in a position to take a stand.
