The Supreme Court has finally laid to rest the protracted land tussle between Abagana in Njikoka local government area and Ukpo in Dunukofia local government area of Anambra State.
In a unanimous judgment on Tuesday, the Supreme Court recalled that the case had earlier been dismissed at the lower courts, but some people had continued to bring it up.
The presiding Judge, Justice Inyang Okoro's ruling followed a submission by the counsel to Ukpo community, Chief Nnamdi Ibegbu, SAN, to the effect that the case, which was struck out at the Court of Appeal, should be dismissed in its entirety to put to a final stop further adjudication on the matter in any other court, under any guise.
With Justice Inyang Okoro's ruling, the matter has been laid to rest.
It will be recalled that Abagana, Abba and Ukpo communities which are neighbours, had been involved in the land case that went up to the Supreme Court, which had long been decided in favour of Ukpo community in an earlier judgement some years ago.
Despite the ruling, Abagana and Abba communities have continued to bring up the matter in some High Courts in Anambra State under different guise.
