Fear has gripped the entire Agbada Nenwe community in Aninri local government of Enugu State, following the killing of three villagers by masked gunmen, who invaded the community at the weekend.
The victims of the invasion according to reports are a popular dealer on block and cement at Orie Agu, Emulemoke Agbada Road, Mr Hillary Uche; a machine parts dealer at Signboard area of the village, whose name was given as Kingsley and another young man who was popularly known as FM and they were hacked down by the blood thirsty gun carrying men, at either their shops or homes.
The State Police Public Relations Officer, Daniel Ndukwe (DSP) who confirmed the ugly incident said Police had since launched manhunt to arrest the assailants.
According to him, “Discreet investigation and manhunt operation are underway to fish out the yet-to-be identified armed hoodlums said to have shot and killed three (3) male victims, in the wee hours of 09/09/2023, at Agbada Village square, in Nenwe community of Aninri Local Government Area. Further development shall be communicated accordingly, please.”
Villagers said the masked gunmen who stormed the village Saturday morning, located the victims in their houses and shops and killed them instantly.
Village sources also said that while Kingsley and FM were dragged out from their homes in Amagu Agbada Nenwe to the village square, where they were killed, Hilary was murdered inside his shop at the Orie Agu market.
The hoodlums the sources disclosed also set a house ablaze after searching the house without seeing their target.
Narrating the incident yesterday, one of the village sources said, "Some unknown gunmen entered my village and brought out Kingsley and FM and dragged them to the village square where they killed them.
“Nobody knows who the people are. Some came in motorcycles while some of our people said some of them came in a vehicle."
“Everyone is afraid of even going out. There is panic everywhere. This kind of thing has never happen before here."
“One of the persons they killed, Mr Hillary, was shot three times in his shop at Orie Agu Nenwe. All of those unknown gunmen wore masks, suggesting that they may have come from around us here.”
Meanwhile, villagers especially young men doing businesses in the area have started fleeing the place following the incident.
