The President of the United Nations Youth Association Nigeria (UNYA-NG), Ambassador Eze Ihechukwumere Ezekiel has emphasized the need to instill peace through education, dialogue and collaboration to ensure global harmony.
Speaking during a summit to mark the 2024 International Day of Peace, Ezekiel said the celebration aligns with the global call for peace and non-violence, which the United Nations highlights annually.
"It is imperative to instill the values of peace in the younger generation if we are to build a more harmonious future," Ezekiel said.
The convener of Child Plus Africa and guest speaker at the event, Chikezie Ogaziechi, identified the issue of inequality as a key obstacle to peace in Nigeria.
According to him, the country’s large number of out-of-school children is worrisome, warning that lack of access to education threatens peace and stability.
"These uneducated children will become the reason we won’t have peace. I urge the various tiers of government and society to prioritize educational access for all", Ogaziechi said.
He explained that his organization, Child Plus Africa, has been providing educational opportunities to underprivileged children as a critical intervention.
Highlight of the summit was the presentation of "Peace Ambassador" award to Engr. Ogaziechi by UNYA-NG in recognition of his humanitarian efforts.
The UNYA-NG Ambassador, Eze, who presented the award described Ogaziechi as a reformer whose work, including scholarships for underprivileged children, has proved to be pivotal in fostering peace through education in Nigeria.
