Three persons suspected to belong to a cult group have been shot dead at different locations within Awka, the Anambra state capital.
The killings occurred at the St Faith Church area, Ukwuorji area close to Paul University and at Amawbia.
Cult killings have become rampant in Awka and security operatives appear to have been overwhelmed by the situation.
Only last Sunday, a shooting at Ifite area of the state capital left an unidentified tricycle operator dead.
The victim at Ukwuorji was said to be a private security operative from Abagana, but living around the area with his elder sister.
According to an eyewitness, the incident at Amawbia also led to the death of a young man who was selling shawarma opposite the market.
The witnesses said: "Four bullets were pumped into his head, while residents scampered for safety.
"The scene of the incident is a pole away from the State CID and the Police command headquarters in Anambra State, but the gunmen leisurely drove away without any challenge."
The state police command has not reacted on the latest killings.
