Tight security as LP holds National Convention in Nnewi

The National Convention of the Labour Party, LP, which was earlier shifted from Abia to Anambra State is currently taking place in the industrial town of Nnewi amidst tight security.


Some suspected hoodlums waving placards who tried to infiltrate the venue of the convention were arrested.


Also journalists who came to cover the event at the Grand Seasons Hotel were barred, as the national publicity secretary of the party, Obiorah Ifoh was said to have told security operatives manning the gate of the hotel that no journalist should be allowed in.


A party chieftain said the intention of the hoodlums and their sponsors was to destabilize the convention.


As at 2.15 pm, noise of the affirmation of returned officials was heard inside the hotel, with clapping by the delegates.


It was also gathered that the presidential candidate of the party in the February 25, 2023 election, Mr. Peter Obi, conspicuously absent at the Nnewi convention.
