UNIZIK: Prof. Arinze-Umobi hands over to new VC, Prof. Odoh, says he's a capable hand

The official handover of leadership at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, from the Acting Vice Chancellor, Prof. Carol Arinze-Umobi, to Prof. Bernard Ifeanyi Odoh, as the institution’s substantive Vice-Chancellor took place on Wednesday at the VC's office.


Key figures at the ceremony included the Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic) Rev. Fr. Prof. Peter Agbonome, Professors Chinedu Onyeizugbe, Ken Ngwoke, Damian Chigozie Ezeonyejiaku and Isaac Nwankwo.


Also present to witness the ceremony were Dr. Paul Okolie ( a council member) and Dr. Ugochukwu Udunze.


In her farewell remarks, Prof. Arinze-Umobi expressed confidence in Prof. Odoh's capability to elevate the institution’s status.


While commending Prof Arinze -Umobi for her contributions to the development of the university during her tenure, the new Vice Chancellor expressed his commitment to build upon the university's progress.


He promised to reshape the institution during his tenure and called for the cooperation of everyone to ensure success.


The handover event followed the appointment of Prof. Odoh as the university's 7th substantive Vice-Chancellor on Tuesday by the governing council of the university.


A distinguished scholar, Odoh, who is the first alumnus of the university to serve as its Vice-Chancellor, is a Professor of Applied Geophysics.
