The Vice Chancellor, Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof Charles Esimone has received the highest award of the University of Nigeria Alumni Association (UNAA) in recognition of his dedication to the lofty ideals of his alma mater, the University of Nigeria.
Recall that Prof Esimone sponsored the 108th National Executive Council (NEC) meeting & 27th National Convention of the association held in Awka in April 2022 and equally delivered the keynote address.
At the 114th National Executive Council and 28th Biennial Convention of UNAA held in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, Prof Esimone was recognized with the award of Alumni Lion of High Achievements (ALOHA) for the good works he had done for the association.
Others who received awards at the Port Harcourt convention include Justice of the Appeal Court, Justice Biobele Georgewill, Chairman BoT UNAA and his twin brother who is this year's Guest Lecturer and Vice Chancellor, University of Port Harcourt, Prof Owunari Georgewill.
Other ALOHA awardees include the Vice Chancellor, Micheal Okpara University of Agriculture Umudike, Prof Maduaebisi Ofoi Iwe; Senior Lecturer, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Prof Ngozi A. A Okereke and a committed member of the association, Bishop Eric Chuka Agwuegbo.
Responding, Professor Esimone appreciated UNAA for the honour done them and promised to redouble their efforts in service to the association.
He said: "I join my colleagues the 2024 ALOHA awardees to thank the exco, UNAA and the great University of Nigeria for making us who we are.
"Whatever we are today, we must recognise that we passed through a university that helped us to restore the dignity of man; and in all our areas of service, go and verify, we have continuously restored the dignity of man.
"As ALOHA, we have a life commitment to support the association anytime anywhere in the area of goodwill, finances, intellectual knowledge among others."
Esimone is a member of University of Nigeria Alumni Association Awka branch.
