The Labour Party (LP) has said it has no plan to merge with the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to dislodge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections.
Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, PDP’s presidential candidate, had on Tuesday, suggested that opposition parties need to merge to defeat the ruling APC in the next presidential poll.
But while reacting in a statement on Thursday, to reports that LP has accepted Atiku’s suggestion, LP spokesman, Obiora Ifoh said the party has not discussed any merger with any party.
Atiku’s call, according to Ifoh “was only a proposal and every Nigerian should be interested in making democracy work in Nigeria and that what we have presently is an autocracy.
“There was nowhere in the response that the purported merger between LP and PDP was mentioned."
