The former National Auditor of All Progressives Congress, APC, Sir Paul Chukwuma says he has identified the challenges facing Anambra APC, stressing the need for unity within the party to be able to fix them.
Chukwuma, who spoke during a meeting with members of the State Working Committee of the party, went down memory lane to analyze the reasons for the party's previous election losses in Anambra State from 2013 to 2021.
According to him, the absence of a free, fair and credible primary always led to the division in the party before any gubernatorial election and urged leaders of APC to do everything possible to unify the party and also ensure free and credible primaries.
Chukwuma advised the working committee to sanction elected members of the party at all levels who openly campaign for any aspirant ahead of the primary.
He urged the party to open its doors to new members as the party needs all the support to take over the Anambra government house in 2026.
At the meeting, Chukwuma intimated the party leaders of his desire to contest the Anambra gubernatorial election in 2025.
He stated that the party needs an intellectual candidate who can appeal to the elites, grassroots, entrepreneurs and the academia, adding that he possesses these qualities sufficiently.
State chairman of the party, Chief Basil Ejidike commended the efforts of Paul Chukwuma to ensure that the party functions effectively and smoothly.
Explaining that the party supports the legitimate aspirations of every member, Ejidike promised to collaborate with other stakeholders to ensure that the process till and after the primaries is rancour-free to build a strong and united party going into the 2025 election.
